Etimologie (Engels)
In summary
From Middle High German gewonet (“customary”), past participle of gewonen, from Old High German giwonēn (“to get accustomed, bide, abide”). This verb has been displaced by reflexive sich gewöhnen, from related Middle High German gewenen (“to accustom, make accustomed”). Modern German gewohnt absorbed the related adjective gewohn (“common, usual”), from Proto-Germanic *gawunaz (whence Dutch gewoon). The t-less form disappeared by 1800, but remains in the derivatives Gewohnheit and gewöhnlich. Also related with English wont, which compare.
